My name is Danniell Hurst, and I am a Breathwork Facilitator. Here's a little background on me: It was 26 years ago when I first noticed that I could control my emotions by controlling my breath. I was working at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham in their very busy emergency room. The hospital offered wellness classes to employees for free at that time, and I decided to take a “yoga” class for a little decompression after work. I didn’t learn a thing about yoga, but I did learn how to breathe differently. I couldn’t tell you the technique that I learned, but I can tell you that I learned how to slow my heart rate, calm my mind, and ground my emotions with my breath when big emergencies were happening. Fast forward 7 years from that time, I became a massage therapist, and I learned to teach and use diaphragmatic breathing to bring people back to their bodies, and help release tension in the whole body. I’ve been doing that for 21 years now. Over a year ago, a family member struggling with their own anxiety and stress discovered circular breathwork online and shared it with me. After just 3 sessions I was convinced: I wanted to bring this to my community to teach others an accessible and relatively easy way to shift their emotional well-being. I have been practicing Circular Breathwork for two years now, earned my certification to teach classes to individuals and in a class setting last year. I had been seeing a sharp increase in hopelessness, anger, sadness…all of the heavy negative feelings, as well as shallow stress breathing- from my group of clients. When I looked around my community in Snohomish County, and also in Skagit and Whatcom counties, I couldn’t find anyone doing these sessions in person. You see, I wanted to work through my own stuck emotions, work through some grief, build some self confidence, and I didn’t want to JUST do it online. I’m one of those people that learns best when in person. So I decided to become a Breathwork teacher myself! See a need, fill a need! Breathwork is the fastest growing self-care modality out there right now. It’s up 17% from last year, with 318,000 searches a month on the subject. I want you to know that this is an accessible, easy way for releasing emotional burdens, calming the nervous system, and bringing some peace and clarity to issues in your life. I am passionate about collaborating with other health and wellness professionals to bring this powerful tool for stress relief and more to our communities.
